At the UFC 149 post-fight press conference welterweight Matt Riddle expressed his dislike for the British public and called out welterweight striker Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy. After explaining that he felt a win over Hardy would put him on the map Riddle went on to explain his hatred for England, resulting in UFC president Dana White saying “We are definitely making the Dan Hardy fight”.

In one of the more exciting fights at UFC 149, we got to see Matt Riddle take on Chris Clements in a back and forth scrap, the fight came to an end when Riddle locked in a tight arm-triangle choke that gave Clements no option but to tap. The submission win earned Matt Riddle “Submission of the Night” honors and a $65,000 cheque to take home.

Here is what Riddle said after he was asked why he wants to face Dan Hardy:

“Whoever they give me is whoever they give me, I am down to fight anybody, anytime, anywhere” He then went on to say “I just picked Dan Hardy because he has got a lot of hype behind him, I know if I beat him it will put me on the map for sure. You know, that’s the only reason why, I have nothing personal against him just like he has nothing personal against me. A win over Dan Hardy and I guarantee everybody knows my name afterwards”

The Dana White said:

“I heard Riddle hates English people”

Then Riddle who competed at UFC 105 in Manchester said:

“I will be completely honest, when I fought in Manchester, they were very cruel to me. One fan actually spat directly in my face and he was lucky enough where it hit my mouth.”

Whilst laughing White said:

“Wow. I was kidding.”

Riddle continued to say:

“I don’t have anything against English people. But to be disrespected like that, that was the part that really upset me. Everybody up here on this table is a world class athlete and we should be treated as a world class athlete. And for some butter-toothed Brit to spit in my mouth, that was some bull.”

White finished the topic by saying:

“We are definitely making the Dan Hardy fight!”

Dan Hardy is currently scheduled to fight Amir Sadollah at UFC Nottingham in September, who knows if/when we will see Riddle vs. Hardy? but I would love to see it!
