News has emerged that a middleweight fight between Vitor Belfort and Anthony Johnson is very likely to take place at UFC 142 in Brazil.
MMA veteran Vitor Belfort will get the chance to fight on home soil in Brazil. Known for being a huge supporter of MMA in his home country, he will relish the opportunity to put on a great fight and performance for his fans and countrymen. As many of you are aware, Vitor suffered his most recent loss to UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 126. This loss must have been a huge blow to Belfort, but he bounced back with all guns blazing in his last appearance in the octagon against Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 133. Belfort scored an explosive first round KO, leaving many fans feeling that the Vitor of old was back. We will get the chance to see if this is the case when he takes on Anthony Johnson.
Johnson enters this fight with two consecutive wins under his belt. After losing to Josh Koscheck in November 2009, Anthony made his return to the UFC against Dan Hardy in March of this year. He won this fight via unanimous decision, in a bout which many fans felt lacked excitement. Johnson basically used his superior wrestling to control the fight, earning a pretty safe victory. His most recent fight and victory was against Charlie Brenneman, in which he scored a first round KO earning himself “knockout of the night” honors.
One of the most interesting facts to note about this fight is that Anthony Johnson will be making a move from welterweight to middleweight. This change in weight class is something that many people feel should have already happened, due to Johnson’s size and troubles making weight in the past. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts and performs, especially against such a skilled fighter like Vitor Belfort.
Thanks guys,
