UFC officials have announced UFC lightweight fighters Melvin Guillard (29-10-2) and Fabricio Camoes (14-6-1) will square off at UFC 148 which is set to take place July 7 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The main event on the night will feature UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz against Team Alpha Male leader Urijah Faber. Both of these men are currently competing against each other as coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter: Live” on FX and will battle it out for the bantamweight gold at UFC 148.

Melvin Guillard has not had the best of luck recently having dropped two consecutive first round submission losses, first to Joe Lauzon last October, then against Jim Miller in January. The loss to Lauzon lasted all of 47 seconds.

Prior to this recent slump in performance Guillard had built up a five fight winning streak having defeated the likes of Ronys Torres, Waylon Lowe, Jeremy Stephens, Evan Dunham and Shane Roller.

Fabricio Camoes is on his second stint in the UFC. His first ever fight in the UFC ended in a draw against Caol Uno at UFC 106 back in November 2009. The fight ended in a draw after Comoes had a point deducted for an illegal up-kick to the head.

In his next fight at UFC 111 Camoes faced Kurt Pellegrino and lost via submission. This resulted in his release from the organization and a trip back to the drawing board. Following his release Camoes signed with Tachi Palace Fights and scored back-to-back wins in early 2011 against Steve Lopez and Efrain Escudero.

These solid victories earned him another shot in the UFC and in his return fight Fabricio defeated newcomer Tommy Hayden via rear-naked choke submission in the first round.

A victory against promotional veteran Guillard would be big for Camoes, but defeating the heavy-handed Blackzilian team member will not be an easy task for the 33-year-old BJJ black belt.
