Johannesburg (South Africa) – EFC AFRICA 17 will take place at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena on 23 November, and it is going to be jam-packed with the best MMA ever seen on the continent! Four exciting bouts have already been confirmed including two championship bouts that are not to be missed.
Jeremy Smith (11-1) will defend his middleweight title against Darren Daniel (6-1). Undefeated in EFC AFRICA, Smith rose to the top of the middlewight pack when he dispatched of Garreth McLellan on 2 March 2011.
“I am looking forward to it and can’t wait to fight,” says Smith. Daniel’s long awaited return from a year-long back injury happened in EFC AFRICA 15 where he showed his dominance by reckoning off with Tyron Rightford. “I am feeling confident and Jeremy and I will both bring our A-game, so the fans can expect 100% from both of us,” says Daniel.
This epic battle is already being called the most anticipated bout in EFC AFRICA history.
Costa Ioannou (5-0), the Greek sensation, will also defend his lightweight title at EFC AFRICA 17 against Leon Mynhardt (11-5).
“The fans can expect me to come to battle as always and finishing Leon. Costa is coming,” says the lightweight champion. ‘The Iron Lion’ reckons he is more than ready. “I have been training hard and I have gathered enough experience to be confident for this fight,” says Mynhardt.
Fan favourite Ioannou is undefeated and steamrolled all past challengers, but top striker Mynhardt has smashed his way to the number one contender spot and is a force to be reckoned with.
EFC AFRICA 17 also looks forward to the introduction of a new athlete from Sierra Leone living in the US, Tenyeh Dixon (11-9). The welterweight ‘Skinnyman’ will take on the experienced ground and pounder, Martin ‘The Punisher’ van Staden (19-6).
Another exciting bout is the welterweight clash between Dino Bagattin (9-3) and Neil Diesel (2-1). Both are looking to make a statement with a big win in this competitive division.
