A new bout has been added to the DREAM 18 fight card as Marloes Coenen (20-5) faces Fiona Muxlow (6-1) in featherweight matchup. The event is set to take place at Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan on New Year’s Eve.
Glory Sports International officials recently announced the new fight via official press release.
DREAM 18 will feature a headline bout between former DREAM lightweight champion Shinya Aoki and Antonio McKee. Also, Melvin Manhoef and Denis Kang will face off in a middleweight matchup. The ‘GSI presents DREAM 18 and GLORY 4 Tokyo – New Year’s Eve Special’ will commence at 4 p.m. JST with the DREAM 18 card and continue with the GLORY 4 Tokyo – Heavyweight Grand Slam, one-night 16-man single-elimination tournament featuring the world’s top heavyweight stand-up fighters.
Marloes Coenen last fought at Invicta FC 1 in April, where she scored a unanimous decision victory over Romy Ruyssen. Prior to that she dropped a fourth round submission loss to Miesha Tate at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson” in July 2011. Coenen will no doubt look to begin a winning streak with a big performance against Muxlow.
“I’m so excited to fight at the most anticipated event of the year in Japan. GSI is producing DREAM on New Year’s Eve and it’s great that they have a female fight so prominently on the card. On the other side of the world there’s also a highly-anticipated female fight coming up, so I’m really happy that women are getting the attention that they deserve,” – Marloes Coenen.
Fiona Muxlow is currently riding a three fight winning streak, most recently defeating Leanne Reid via unanimous decision at BFW 17 in October. Prior to that she scored a third round TKO victory over Deney Hayward at ICNZ 14 in June 2011, and a decision win over Kyra Purcell at BFW 2 in August 2009. Muxlow has a chance to make a name for herself with a big win over Coenen.
