Invicta FC 4 took place last night (Dec. 5), and provided yet another exciting fight card for fans around the world. Packed with talent from top to bottom, the show delivered some really good fights. The event took place at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. airing LIVE on InvictaFC.com.
In the headline bout Carla Esparza scored a unanimous decision victory over Bec Hyatt, becoming the first-ever Invicta Fighting Championships strawweight champion, after five hard fought rounds. Bec Hyatt always looked dangerous on the feet, but was never standing long enough to cause any major damage. Esparza repeatedly scored take-downs and controlled the fight on the ground, this is what allowed her to maintain dominance and win the decision in the end.
In the co-main event of the evening Alexis Davis defeated Shayna Baszler via third round submission, avenging her previous loss to Baszler back in 2010. During the first two rounds the women went back and forth on the ground in a competitive battle for position. Early in the third round Shayna slipped, giving Davis the opportunity to take her back, Alexis managed to lock in a rear-naked choke and rather then tap Baszler went to sleep. Alexis Davis won the fight after a performance from both women that rightfully earned “Fight of the Night”.
Elsewhere on the undercard, Veronica Rothenhausler scored her fourth straight first round knockout victory against Katalina Malungahu. From the start of the fight you could see that both women wanted to stand and bang. After a few exchanges Rothenhausler caught Malungahu with a straight right hand as she was coming in that dropped Katalina to the ground. A great way for Veronica to make her pro debut, with yet another devastating KO.
