This August, all new Extreme Fighting Championships Africa (EFC Africa) hits Extreme Sports Channel as premieres of the newest and hottest events from the ultimate in Africa’s Mixed Martial Arts programming play out exclusively across eight intense, action-packed nights.
The series kicks off with the highly-anticipated EFC Africa 18 which took place on 1st March in Johannesburg, and saw a stacked fight card with the main event witnessing a thrilling bout as the most feared man on the continent, Ruan ‘Fangzz’ Potts, defended his prized heavyweight title against Andrew van Zyl. Further bouts see JP Kruger determined to protect his unbeaten run when he takes on Donavin Hawkey in the middleweight category.
EFC Africa 19 which took place on 19th April in Gauteng follows hot on the trail with yet another heaving fight card. The main bout featured the promotion’s first champion, Wentzel ‘The Animal’ Nel take on Demarte Pena in a brutal bid to make history in his challenge for featherweight champion, Pena’s, title belt. A win would see him become the first EFC Africa champion in two weight divisions. Also on the card, Martin ‘The Punisher’ Van Staden faces Adam ‘The Prodigy’ Speechly for an esteemed welterweight spot, and Dino Bagattin and Tyron Rightford step into the hexagon for the much talked about “fight of the year”.
With ten new events per year broadcast in over 110 countries, and exclusive contracts with more than 100 of Africa’s toughest MMA athletes competing out of countries such as South Africa, D.R.C., Angola, Nigeria and Egypt, it’s easy to see why the passion of EFC has spread far beyond Africa and across the globe. Extreme brings two of the latest eagerly-awaited events to UK viewers exclusively on weeknights from 5th until 14th of August.
For the athletes that compete in EFC Africa, MMA isn’t just a sport. It’s a mind-set. It’s a way of life. A sentiment shared by Wentzel ‘The Animal’ Nel who says: ““My driving force for this fight is pure love for MMA, nothing else. I’m training like it’s my last session I’ll ever have and fighting like it’s the last fight I’m allowed. I’m putting all of my body into this fight. It doesn’t matter what the outcome is. I’m going to fight like it’s the last fight of my life, ever.”
The stakes are higher than ever before, but whose blazing victory will be another’s shameful defeat?
