A new bout has been announced for UFC 166 as Roy “Big Country” Nelson (19-8) faces Daniel Cormier (12-0) in a heavyweight MMA showdown. The event is set to take place at the Toyota Center in Houston, on Oct 19.
UFC officials recently confirmed the new matchup, which will be the co-main event on the night.
UFC 166 will feature a headline bout between current UFC heavyweight champion Cain velasquez and former title holder Junior Dos Santos. The main card will air LIVE on PPV with the prelims expected to air on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook.
Roy Nelson last fought at UFC 161 in June, where he dropped a unanimous decision loss against Stipe Miocic. Prior to that he had been on a three fight winning streak, defeating notable fighters such as Dave Herman, Matt Mitione and Cheick Kongo. Nelson has the change to return to that form with a big win over Cormier on October 19th.
Undefeated Strikeforce veteran Daniel Cormier was last in action at UFC on FOX 7 in April, where he scored a unanimous decision victory over Frank Mir. Prior to that he picked up a second round TKO win over Dion Staring at “Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine” in January, and a unanimous decision victory over Josh Barnett in May 2012. Cormier will no doubt look to extend his winning streak to thirteen with a good performance against Nelson.
