Two new bouts have been added to the UFC 166 card as Gabriel Gonzaga (15-7) faces Shawn Jordan (15-4) in a heavyweight bout, and K.J. Noons (11-7) takes on George Sotiropoulos (14-5) in a lightweight matchup. The event is set to take place at the Toyota Center in Houston, on Oct 19.
UFC officials announced the two fights on Wednesday.
UFC 166 will feature a headline bout between current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and former champ Junior Dos Santos. The main card will air LIVE on PPV with the prelims expected to air on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook.
Gabriel Gonzaga last fought at UFC 162 in July, where he scored a first round KO victory over Dave Herman. Prior to that he dropped a first round KO loss against Travis Browne at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale in April. That loss snapped a three fight winning streak he had been on, defeating notable fighters such as Parker Porter, Ednaldo Oliveira and Ben Rothwell. Gonzaga now has the chance to begin a new winning steak by defeating Jordan.
Shawn Jordan is currently riding a two fight winning streak, most recently defeating Pat Barry via first round TKO at UFC 161 in June. Prior to that he scored a second round TKO victory over Mike Russow at UFC on FOX 6 in January. Jordan will no doubt look to extend his winning streak to three with a good performance against Gonzaga.
K.J. Noons is currently on a three fight losing skid, most recently suffering a unanimous decision loss against Donald Cerrone at UFC 160 in May. Prior to that he was defeated by Ryan Couture and Josh Thomson whilst fighting for Strikeforce, losing both fights via decision. Noons’ most recent victory was against Billy Evangelista, where he won via unanimous decision at “Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal” in December 2011. Noons now has the chance to bounce back into the win column by defeating Sotiropoulos on October 19th.
Meanwhile, George Sotiropoulos has also lost his last three fights in a row, most recently dropping a third round TKO loss against Ross Pearson at UFC on FX 6 in December 2012. Prior to that he suffered a first round KO loss against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 132 in July 2011, and a unanimous decision loss to Dennis Siver at UFC 127 in February 2011. Sotiropoulos has the chance to pick up a much needed win against Noons and move one step higher in the lightweight division.
