A new bout has been announced for BAMMA 14 as Mansour Barnaoui (10-2) defends the BAMMA lightweight title against Colin ’Freakshow’ Fletcher (9-3). The event is set to take place at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England, on December 14th.
BAMMA officials announced the new bout earlier today.
Here is what Colin ‘Freakshow’ Fletcher had to say:
“It’s an honour to be given the chance to fetch the BAMMA world title back home to British soil where it belongs. Although I respect him as a fighter, I don’t think much of him personally: By calling me out straight after winning a world title shows that he doesn’t see himself as a true champion. Anyone can be a good fighter but it’s something else to be good champion. Fans can expect an angry Freakshow. He’s annoyed me so I’ll be training harder than ever.” - Colin ‘Freakshow’ Fletcher.
Colin Fletcher last fought at BAMMA 13 in September, where he scored a unanimous decision win over Tim Newman. That victory snapped a two fight losing skid he had been on, dropping losses against Norman Parke and Mike Ricci whilst fighting for the UFC. Before becoming a contestant on “The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes” Fletcher had built up a four fight winning streak, defeating notable fighters such as Myles Price, Igor Montes, David Round and Jason Ball. Colin now has the chance to start a new winning streak and potentially take home the title on Dec. 14.
“My next opponent, Colin Fletcher, is one of the most talented fighters in UK. Like Curt Warburton, he is a veteran of the UFC. He fought and won bravely in his last fight in BAMMA and now he gets his ticket to a title bout that he was no doubt expecting. I called him out to prove to everyone that I am not afraid of facing the most famous fighters in the UK or the world. Fletcher’s fans expect to see him win the fight. My fans expect to see me back home with the belt. BAMMA fans and MMA fans from all over the world are expecting a totally action-packed fight, as intense as I gave last time I stepped into the BAMMA cage.” - Mansour Barnaoui.
Mansour Barnaoui is currently riding a two fight winning streak, most recently defeating Curt Warburton via first round TKO at BAMMA 13 in September. Prior to that he scored a third round submission victory over Zulfikar Usmanov at M-1 Challenge 41 in August. Barnaoui will no doubt look to make his first successful title defense with a good performance against Fletcher.
