UFC middleweight fighter Michael Bisping was forced to withdraw from a bout against Mark Munoz at UFC Fight Night 30 after suffering a detached retina in September. Bisping was replaced by Lyoto Machida, who will now face Munoz in Manchester, England., on October 26th.
This past weekend, the British native posted an Instagram picture on Twitter of his injured eye, which is likely to keep him on the sidelines for quite a while. It is a shame because Michael would have been fighting in front of a home crown in Manchester for the first time in three years, so of course it was important to him.
Here is what Michael Bisping had to say on Twitter:
“Words cannot describe how sad I am having to withdraw from my fight. My sincere apologies to evry1 who bought tickets. I will be back soon.”
Bisping last fought at UFC 159 in April, where he scored a technical unanimous decision win over Alan Belcher. The fight was then stopped late in the third round after Bisping accidentally poked Belcher in the eye, rendering Belcher unable to continue. Bisping won the bout via a clear and unanimous, technical decision.
Prior to that “The Count” dropped a second round TKO loss against Vitor Belfort at UFC on FX 7 in January. That loss followed a unanimous decision win over Brian Stann at UFC 152 in September 2012. During 2010/2011 Bisping built up a four fight winning streak, defeating notable fighters such as Dan Miller, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Jorge Rivera and Jason Miller. That win streak was snapped at UFC on FOX 2 when Chael Sonnen defeated Bisping via unanimous decision.
Michael Bisping will no doubt look to begin a new winning streak upon his return. Hopefully this eye injury doesn’t keep “The Count” out for too long.
