News has emerged this week that UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will face Chad Mendes at UFC 142. This event is likely to take place in Brazil on January 14th 2012.
This fight will be Jose Aldo’s third UFC featherweight title defense in the organization since coming over from the WEC. His previous two victories were against Mark Hominick and most recently Kenny Florian. Both of these fights were won via unanimous decision. Aldo will now get the chance to impress his home crowd in Brazil and all the UFC fans around the world. Many feel that Jose Aldo is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet, with an MMA record of 20-1 and a fighting style that many find hard to contend with. I have a feeling he will want to pull out a big win against Mendes on home soil.
Chad Mendes enters this fight undefeated, with an MMA record of 11-0, impressive considering he has competed in both the WEC and UFC against top competition. Chad won his latest fight against Rani Yahya at UFC 133 via unanimous decision earning himself a shot at the title. Mendes was actually scheduled to take on Aldo that night, but the fight could not happen due to the champion picking up an injury.
I have a feeling that this fight could go the distance, something both men are familiar with. They are both young and hungry with great records. Regardless of what happens, they both have a great future ahead of them. I cannot wait to see who comes out on top in this featherweight battle.
Thanks Guys,
Jay Cee.
