• UCMMA 31: Thomasz Czerwinski replaces Darren Towler and now faces Neil Grove

  • neil grove vs tomasz czerwinski 300x147 UCMMA 31: Thomasz Czerwinski replaces Darren Towler and now faces Neil GroveA new bout has been formed for the UCMMA 31 card as Thomasz Czerwinski (4-6) now faces Neil “Goliath” Grove (11-6-1) in a battle for the Heavyweight Interim Title. Czerwinski has stepped in to replace an injured Darren Towler who was forced to withdraw from his scheduled fight with Grove in December.

UCMMA officials announced the new match-up today via official press release.

Towler was forced to withdraw from the fight after ripping a muscle in his shoulder. The current UCMMA heavyweight champion is expected to make a return to action in the new year.

Here is what Darren “Power House” Towler had to say:

“I am totally gutted to have dropped out of such a big fight on a big stage, I love to fight on UCMMA and I was looking forward to defending my silverware and bringing the win home for Christmas. I would like to apologize to Neil Grove and I hope we can get the fight on again in the new year, to all the people that bought tickets to come and watch me fight and of course, I want to apologize to Dave O’Donnell.”

UCMMA 31 takes place on Dec. 1 at the Troxy in London. The main card will feature two more title bouts as Lloyd Clarkson faces Ben Callum for the middleweight strap, and Jody Collins takes on Cory Tait for the bantamweight championship. All of the nights main action will air on Sky Sports on December 5th.

Thomasz Czerwinski last fought at CFC 13 in July, where he scored a first round TKO victory over Kevin Camp. Prior to that he had been on a three fight skid, dropping losses against Karl Etherington, Stav Economou and Andy Spiers. Czerwinski now has the chance to put another notch in the win column and pick up the interim title on Dec. 1.

Here is what Thomasz Czerwinski had to say:

“I am so excited to step in and take on a former UFC, Bellator and Cage Rage Star, but this fight is no exception, Grove is getting knocked out just like any other opponent of mine.”

Neil Grove is currently on a three fight losing streak, dropping losses to Mike Hayes, Thiago Santos and most recently Todd Duffee at SFL 2 in April. His most recent victory was against Zak Jansen at Bellator 47 in July 2011, where he scored a first round TKO. Grove makes his return to UCMMA and will no doubt look to put in a big performance against Czerwinski.

“After calling many fighters only one Heavyweight champ said yes straight away, the Polish Monter Big Tom, the man will fight anyone anywhere, Christmas has come early for all MMA Fans because I can’t see this going out of the 1st round” – Dave O’Donnell
