A new bout has been formed for Bellator 108 as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (32-11) faces Joey Beltran (14-9) in a light heavyweight matchup. Beltran has stepped in as a replacement for Tito Ortiz, who suffered a fractured neck forcing him to withdraw from his originally scheduled Pay-Per-View headliner against Jackson. The event will take place at the Revel in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Nov. 15.
Bellator officials recently confirmed the new bout via press release.
Here is what “Rampage” had to say about the fight:
“I want to thank Joey Beltran for stepping up for the fight so I can get my first Bellator victory out of the way,” Rampage said. “He’ll have the unfortunate honor of taking the ass whooping I was going to give Tito. My body is in incredible shape right now. I feel like I did in PRIDE, and Joey Beltran is the right guy to put on an exciting fight and showcase what I’ve been working on.” - Quinton Jackson.
Quinton Jackson is currently on a three fight losing streak, dropping losses to Glover Teixeira, Ryan Bader and Jon Jones whilst fighting in the UFC. His most recent victory was against Matt Hamill at UFC 130 in May 2011, where he won via unanimous decision. “Rampage” now has the chance to bounce back into the win column with a good performance in his Bellator debut.
“Getting the chance to fight Rampage is just a tremendous opportunity. This is my Rocky Balboa moment. A win against one of the best and well known fighters in the world would be an incredible accomplishment, and I’m not taking it lightly. Rampage better be prepared and ready for this fight. I’m prepared to go through hell during this fight. There will be blood. Someone is going to get hurt. This is my home now, and I don’t want to go anywhere. It’s Rampage first, then a Bellator Light Heavyweight Tournament, and then onto the title.” - Joey Beltran.
Joey Beltran last fought at UFC Fight Night 29 in October, where he dropped a split decision loss against Fábio Maldonado. Prior to that he recorded a No Contest against Igor Pokrajac at UFC on FX 6 in December 2012, and suffered a unanimous decision loss to James Te Huna at UFC on FUEL TV 4 in July 2012. Beltran will no doubt look to send a message to Bellator’s light heavyweight division with a big win over “Rampage”.
