If you are a fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) or just Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in general then you are likely to have heard about the third matchup between current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and title challenger Junior Dos Santos.
Part three to the trilogy will headline UFC 166, which takes place at the Honda Center in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, October 19th.
Lets take a look at three reasons why you need to watch Velasquez vs. Dos Santos III:
Excitement is almost guaranteed
These men have squared off two times before, with Dos Santos winning the first encounter and Velasquez winning the second. In each of those fights the winner displayed dominance, but in an entirely different way. In part one, Cigano disposed of Cain in just one minute and four seconds of the first round, scoring an impressive TKO victory. However, in part two, Velasquez was able to dominate Dos Santos in most areas, using his high-level wrestling to control the fight. Both fights had us on the edge of our seats and each fight provided us with excitement, so I am pretty certain we can expect something special on Saturday.
Dos Santos wants his belt back
One of the reasons why I like Dos Santos is because every time he fights you can see how passionate he is about winning and how much he wants to be champion. Inside the cage he is a beast, but outside he is a gentle giant. However, he has made it clear that he wants his belt back and I have no doubts in my mind that he has trained very hard in preparation for this third encounter with Cain. He will have learned a lot from the last fight with Velasquez, so it will be interesting to see what game plan he will use going into this bout. One thing is for sure, the Brazilian native has the heart of a champion and the will to be number one once again.
Velasquez has something to prove
All that’s left for Cain Velasquez to do is prove that he’s the best heavyweight MMA fighter on the planet. Many people will feel that he proved this with the victory over Dos Santos in the second fight, but the fact still remains that Cain lost in the first bout. He really needs to secure a dominant victory over Junior in this third bout to put the rivalry to bed and show the world that he is truly number one. That said, I would not rule out the possibility of these guys meeting again at some point in the future regardless of who wins part three, but a win for Velasquez would definitely prove that he is the “baddest man on the planet” for the time being.
