The results are in for UFC Fight Night 29, which took place at the Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Wednesday, October 9th. In the main event, Jake Shields was able to edge a close fought split decision win over a very tough and durable Demian Maia.

Much of the fight took place on the ground with Shields working well from top position. As many of you will be aware, Demian Maia is a highly respected BJJ practitioner, and Shields is no slouch when it comes to grappling, so the American vs. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu battle that many of us expected unraveled right in front of our eyes. It was a very technical back and forth bout that would be tough for any judge to score, but in the end Jake Shields was able to sway the judges.

Elsewhere on the card, Dong Hyun Kim scored an impressive second round TKO win over young prospect Erik Silva. Also, a sluggish looking Thiago Silva picked up a unanimous decision victory over Matt Hamill, and Fabio Maldonado landed a split decision win over Joey Beltran.

Event bonuses went to Dong Hyun Kim, Raphael Assuncao and T.J. Dillashaw. “Stun Gun” took home “Knockout of the Night”, Assuncao and Dillashaw earned “Fight of the Night” and Rousimar Palhares, who scored the only submission win on the card, was denied the “Submission of the Night” bonus. UFC officials elected not to give Palhares the bonus as they felt he held Mike Pierce’s leg in the fight-ending ankle lock for too long.
