Ronda Rousey’s next fight booking was confirmed at the UFC 168 post-fight press conference as UFC president Dana White revealed that she will defend the women’s bantamweight title against Sara McMann at UFC 170 on Feb. 22.
The bout will headline UFC 170, which is set to take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. In the co-headliner, Daniel Cormier will move down a weight-class and face Rashad Evans in a light heavyweight matchup.
Ronda Rousey (8-0) last fought at UFC 168 on Saturday, December 28th, where she scored a third round submission victory over Miesha Tate, earning both “Fight of the Night” and “Submission of the Night” honors. Prior to that she made her first successful UFC title defense against Liz Carmouche at UFC 157 in February, where she won via first round submission using her signature armbar technique. Ronda will no doubt look to maintain her unbeaten status and extend her winning streak to nine with a big win over McMann.
Sara McMann (8-0) was last in action at UFC 159 in April, where she picked up a first round TKO win over Sheila Gaff. Prior to that she scored unanimous decision victories over Shayna Baszler and Hitomi Akano during 2012, and recorded a third round submission win over Raquel Pa’aluhi in August 2011. The 33-year-old Olympic silver medalist now has the chance to take home UFC gold with a big win over Rousey.
