A new bout has been added to the UFC on FOX 9 card as Pat Healy (31-16) faces Jamie Varner (21-8-1) in a lightweight mathcup. The event is set to take place at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif., on Dec. 14.
UFC officials recently confirmed the new bout.
UFC on FOX 9 will feature a headline bout between current UFC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis and Josh Thompson. The main card will air LIVE on FOX with the prelims set to air on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook.
Pat Healy last fought at UFC 165 in September, where he dropped a unanimous decision loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Prior to that at UFC 159 in April he scored a third round submission win over Jim Miller, but this was later overturned to a “No Contest” after Healy tested positive for marijuana metabolites. He was subsequently suspended for 90 days and lost his “Fight of the Night” and “Submission of the Night” bonus money. Pat will no doubt look to bounce back into the win column with a good performance on December 14th.
Meanwhile, Jamie Varner was last in action at UFC 164 in August, where he suffered a split decision loss to Gleison Tibau. Prior to that he picked up a split decision victory over Melvin Guillard at UFC 155 in December 2012. Varner now has the chance to get back on track with a big win over Healy.
