It’s been announced that former UFC fighter John “The One” Maguire has been signed by the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship. Maguire has entered into a five-fight deal with the promotion to cover a minimum period of 18 months.
The 30-year-old “Gypsy Jiu Jitsu” practitioner will join the likes of Sean Carter, Ryan Roddy, Paul Redmond, Saul Rogers, Jason Ball, current CWFC lightweight champion Stevie Ray and many more.
Here is what John Maguire had to say about joining Cage Warriors:
“I’m really happy to be joining Cage Warriors. I think it’s the best promotion in Europe and that’s where I need to be. It has the best lightweight roster around and I’m here to clear it up.”
Maguire is currently on a three fight losing skid, dropping losses to Mitch Clarke, Matthew Riddle and John Hathaway whilst fighting for the UFC. His most recent victory came against DaMarques Johnson at UFC on FUEL TV 2 in April 2012, where he won via second round submission. John now has the chance to bounce back into the win column with a good performance in his CWFC debut, which is scheduled for Cage Warriors 63 on New Years Eve. John’s opponent is yet to be announced.
“John Maguire is a hugely talented fighter and one of the very best in Europe,” said Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan. “That’s why he’ll feel at home at Cage Warriors, where there’ll be plenty of big fights for him to keep his career moving in the right direction.”
I am looking forward to seeing Maguire back in action and can’t wait to see how he does in a lightweight division stacked with talent.
